In 1915 Dr. Carter G. Woodson and Rev. Jesse E. Moorland co- founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. They were trying to make awarness of the importance black people have in American as well as world history. They also wanted for blacks to have pride in their race.
Later in 1920, Dr.Carter created Black History and Literature week. He also selected the month of february due to two Individuals birthdays. Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass. Black History Month was created to examine the life and history as well as the pride and culture of African Americans. Black History Month is even celebrated in most countrys around the world.
