Sony®

Sony is a large and dependable electronics developer and marketer. They specialize in computer electronics and have been releasing multiple video game systems called the "Playstation® (PS)" family. Starting in the 1980's Sony worked with Nintendo to create a disk drive video game system, which was a version of the Nintendo NES. On September 9, 1995 Sony introduced a stand alone console after Nintendo had secretly signed with Phillips, the Playstation® was released to the American public. Several years later (after the system had become popular), the Playstation® 2 system was launched in 1999. The PS2 became very popular, but as an early version had multiple memory and disk drive problems. This version of the system also allowed users to play dvd's which landed gamers with an advantage over DVD player units. Sony also went into the handheld market and released a Playstation® console that fans could carry aroun with them, the PSP. This handy little device was released on March 24, 2005 and introduced a new sony operating system. This allowed owners to view photos in almost any format, as well as MP4 video, and an interesting turn for WMA and MP3 songs making the PSP a lot like a gaming PDA. When microsoft released its "Xbox 360" unit in 2005 sony was working on a third generation console that was released on May 16, 2005 and revised in March 2007 due to a problem with the Blue-RayTM drive. The PS3 is the most powerful gaming system to date and uses the same OS as the PSP system. Sony is the popular brand for dependable gaming and entertainment appliances and will continue to do their part in gaming.
