Tigers are the largest existing members of the cat family.They only live in Asia.They used to roam all accross Asia freely.They are famous for there orange-tawny coats,amber-gold eyes,black to rich brown stripes,and long,whip-like tail.(click here for more info.) They have the longest canine teeth ofany land mammal.Usually 3 to 4 inches long.Htey keep there claws sharp tohunt and fight off other animals.They use there tail to communcatre. A tiger with its tail up is happy,a tail at the body height thats wagging means its excited.When it twitckes its tail between its legs it is mad or distrubed.They have acute hearing and keen sence of smell.
A tiger uses camouflage to hunt,hiding in tall grasses or snow for cover.Tigers hunt all sort of pray.Like pig,deer,birds,monkeys and anything they can get ahold of.They usually try to takeout the old, young,weak,or injured.But can take out the the strong.They usually ambush there pray. They bite the neck or spinal cord so that they die fast and or parilized and cant run.The organs usually are eaten first.A single tiger can eat over 100 pounds of meat and on sitting, and will cover the carcass with logs and leaves.They will come back for several days until they need fresh meat supply. In general,tigers are solitary.Few cases have ever been reported of them together.Even then,it is almost always only to the mate, or when a tigress raisess cubs.The male and female will join and mate for a few days,then leaves.They are usually pregnant for 103 days. Tigress for teh first few weeks,will nurse and sleep with them,leaving only for food and water.Later the cubs set off on there own.They are vulnerable to leopards,snakes,bears,and wolves.
