Soccer

Soccer is my favorite sport. While it is usually played as an extracurricular activity there are numerous camps and soccer schools. Soccer is played professional all over the world, including the U.S. In most countries, though, it is called football and is the worlds most popular sport. As for public recreation leagues, there are many including The Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, The East County Youth Soccer Association, The Southern Alameda County Youth Soccer League, Eastern Plains Youth Soccer Association, and many others. Each is for a certain area like Eastern Pennsylvania or the Eastern Plains (here where I live!).
Depending on how you play (i.e. professional, recreationally, or group play) the costs can vary greatly. Professionals usually get paid, recreational leagues usually cost about $20-50, and group games usually dont cost anything unless you are renting a field or something. Equipment can be hundreds of dollars for a pair of shoes and thousands for a goal and corner posts along with a $50 ball or a regualr pair of shoes with rocks and a $10 soccer ball. The schedule is different between each league and group, so a common schedule can't be made.Training can be anywhere from a vigorus diet and constant excercise to nothing at all, depending on how you play.
There are various competitions, from local competitions to international tournaments, like the FIFA World Cup. A local professional opportunity here in Byers, where I live, would to try out for the Colorado Rapids.

The rules are simple, kick the ball into the opponents goal first, you can't touch the ball with hands unless you are the goal defender (goally as I usually call it), and each score gets you a point. There are more outlined rules here. The easiest way to find the rules is to go to http://www.fifa.com/.
